What could have been an act of bravery instead turned into cowardice after a man escaped, leaving his lover at the mercy of a rapist.
The rapist later raped the girlfriend twice.
For that reason, the accused was arrested and brought before the Tredgold Regional Court in Bulawayo, where he was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The 24-year-old man from Mhlotshwana Village in Inyathi was convicted of two counts of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, on June 6, at about 11 pm, the offender went to the home of a 31-year-old victim in Mhlotshwana Village.
He threatened both the victim and her boyfriend.
When the victims tried to flee, the offender seized the victim and dragged her into a nearby bush, where he raped her.
The offender then raped the victim a second time later that same night.
The matter was reported to the police, and the complainant was referred to a hospital for a medical examination.
This ultimately led to the offender’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
