A prison officer has been jailed for five years for breaking into government offices.
Kwandokuhle Ndethi, employed by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services was found guilty of unlawful entry.
He broke into several offices at the New Government Complex and stole several HP brand computer components.
The loot included monitors, CPUs, printers, and a power cable.
On March 27, the accused broke into the Attorney General’s office at New Government Complex.
He stole an HP monitor, and 2 printers from the Attorney General’s office.
It was proved that he broke into the offices of the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education at the New Government Complex.
This was between April 1 and 5 and stole computers and printers.
The accused person also broke into the offices of the Ministry of Finance and Investment Promotion on April 2.
He stole an assortment of HP computers and printers.
The total value of the property stolen was US$ 8 350 and everything was recovered.
He was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment of which 2 years were suspended on the usual conditions.
He will serve 5 years effectively.
