A Kariba man has been jailed for 12 months after he destroyed his father’s property after he refused to give him money for beer.
The man, Simbarashe Banda (29), was convicted of malicious damage to property.
On June 5 in 2023, at Plot 29 Majete’s Farm in Karoi, the offender approached his 65-year-old father, Biggie Banda, demanding money to buy beer.
When his request was turned down, he retaliated by setting fire to a grass-thatched gazebo at the homestead.
The fire spread quickly, destroying the gazebo and a garden.
Family members and other villagers managed to extinguish the fire.
The total value of the destroyed property is US$2,000.
