Man breaks into in-law’s house, steals ZAR4900

A Beitbridge man has been sentenced to 16 months effective after he broke into his in-law’s house before stealing cash amounting to ZAR4900 (Zimbabwean dollars).

Nigel Masona (23) appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court facing aggravated unlawful entry charges.

He was initially sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, of which 4 months were suspended for 5 years.

A further 4 months were suspended on condition of restitution.

He will serve an effective 16 months in prison.

On October 24, the complainant closed all the windows and locked all doors before he left the house together with his wife.

While he was away, he received a call from a neighbour informing him that there was a trespasser at his home.

The neighbour later informed him that it was his brother-in-law who was at the house.

When the complainant returned he found that the door had been forced open.

The safe had been broken and ZAR4900 had been stolen from the house.

A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
