Mary Mubaiwa freed on attempted murder charges

Mary Mubaiwa has been freed of attempting to kill Vice President Constantino Chiwenga by allegedly disconnecting his life support system while he was admitted to a South African hospital, bringing to an end a trial that had stretched into its seventh year.

The case was removed from remand, and she will be brought back to court by way of summons.

Harare Regional Magistrate Musaiona Shortgame handed down the ruling after the State sought a postponement to November 25 to allow the prosecution more time to engage witnesses.

In his ruling, Shortgame said Mubaiwa had suffered mental, physical and financial prejudice as a result of the prolonged trial.
