Man kills self in lover’s bedroom after rejection

SHURUGWI – A man from Shurugwi hung himself while in his former lover’s bedroom after she turned down his request for reconciliation.

The 52-year-old Bright Sibanda, of Rockford Farm in Shurugwi had separated with Tariro Mutsvangwa, 54, after a domestic dispute.

He couldn’t bear a rejection after attempts to reconcile.

Midlands Province police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed a sudden death report on June 18.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms receiving a sudden death report concerning a man who was found hanging in a girlfriend’s bedroom.

“The body was discovered on June 19, at about 6 am in Village Marufu, Chief Nhema in Shurugwi.

“The report came that on June, 18 where Bright visited his former girlfriend Tariro in the same area for reconciliation.

“The two had separated over domestic violence-related issues. She turned down his request and he insisted that he would not leave the premises until she accepted him,” he said.

“The girlfriend sought intervention from her uncle who resides in the same village who came and asked Bright to go away.

“He was advised to return the following day, as it was late.

“The uncle then went with his niece to his homestead for her safety.

“The following day at around 7 am, Tariro went back to her homestead and found Bright’s body hanging from the roof trusses in her bedroom.

“She noticed that he had used an unknown object to smash the bedroom window pane.

“He then gained entry into the room where he used a copper cable to hang himself,” said Inspector Mahoko.

He urged members of the public to have their cases mediated.
