Dr Matuka bridges Africa, China through music at youth Leadership Seminar

Teen Rescue Mission Director Dr Abraham Matuka has used music as a powerful tool to promote friendship, cultural exchange, and cooperation between Africa and China after composing and performing a song titled Africa-China during the African Youth Leadership Seminar in Fuzhou, China.

Dr Matuka, who represented Teen Rescue Mission at the seminar, brought a unique artistic touch to the international gathering by collaborating with two Chinese artists on the song, which celebrates the relationship between Africa and China and highlights the importance of continued cooperation between the two regions.

The song became a symbol of cultural unity, demonstrating how music can bring people from different backgrounds together and communicate messages of friendship beyond language barriers.

The highlight came during the seminar’s closing ceremony, where Dr Matuka performed Africa-China.

The performance created an exciting atmosphere, with delegates from different African countries joining in the moment through singing and dancing.

The performance was more than entertainment.

It carried a message of mutual respect, cultural understanding, and the need to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Africa and China for the benefit of their people, particularly young people.

Speaking through his participation in the seminar, Dr Matuka demonstrated that youth leadership goes beyond formal discussions and training.

It also involves creativity, cultural exchange and identifying new ways to build relationships that can open opportunities for future generations.

For Teen Rescue Mission, the experience presents an opportunity to bring new ideas, knowledge and international connections back home to Zimbabwe.

The organisation works to empower young people and help them move away from drug and substance abuse, early pregnancy, crime and other social challenges through life skills, education and community-based initiatives.

Dr Matuka thanked the relationship between Zimbabwe and China, which has enabled people like him to benefit from the relationship in learning things to bring back home.

Participation in the seminar also reflects the potential for international partnerships to support local youth development.

Through platforms that encourage dialogue and collaboration, organisations such as Teen Rescue Mission can explore opportunities to exchange ideas, learn from other countries and develop initiatives that respond to the needs of young people in their communities.

The Africa-China song further illustrates how culture can strengthen people-to-people relations.

By bringing African and Chinese artists together on one stage, the performance conveyed a message that cooperation is not only about governments and institutions, but also about ordinary people connecting through shared experiences, creativity and common aspirations.

As Dr Matuka returns to Zimbabwe, the knowledge and experiences gained during the African Youth Leadership Seminar are expected to inform Teen Rescue Mission’s ongoing work of empowering young people.

His performance in Fuzhou leaves a memorable message: Africa and China can continue building bridges of friendship and cooperation, with young people and cultural exchange playing an important role in shaping a shared future.
