Man jailed for stealing cow to pay lobola

A man has been jailed for nine years for stealing a cow to pay lobola.

Locky Chigwengwe (19) of Nyawiswa village was brought before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court facing stock theft charges.

The magistrate found him guilty and sentenced him to 9 years in jail.

On April 12, this year, at around 6 pm and at Dabvu homestead the complainant penned his herd of cattle and went home.

During the same night, Locky went to the complainant’s cattle kraal and untied a black cow with curved horns.

He drove it away unnoticed.

The accused person used the stolen cow to pay lobola the following day to Ian Wamiridza of Muchena village.

All hell broke loose when the complainant noticed the missing beast the following morning at around 8 am.

A police report was made.

Investigations were conducted and on April 14, Wamiridza was found in possession of the stolen cow.

He implicated the accused person leading to his arrest.

The value of the stolen cow was USD400.
