A Lupane man reportedly struck a woman with an axe before setting her on fire over accusations of bewitching him.
The 28-year-old Sibongiseni Mpofu, has since been arrested for attempted murder.
Police confirmed the incident on their X account.
“On May 18, police in Lupane arrested Sibongiseni Mfanaso in connection with a case of attempted murder.
“He allegedly struck Christine Ncube (72) with an axe on the head.
“The suspect then poured paraffin on the complainant before setting her on fire.
“The suspect had reportedly accused the victim of bewitching him.
“She sustained severe burns and was rescued by other villagers.
“She was referred to St Luke’s Hospital where she was further transferred to Mpilo Hospital.”
