UZ starts replacing striking lecturers

The University of Zimbabwe has started replacing striking lecturers with those interested accepting 60 percent of the payment pegged at US$3.30 per hour.

The 40 percent will be paid at a rate of US$2.20 per hour, payable in ZIG equivalence.

In one of the contracts signed by Administration Officer, Human Capital Management, S Matsika, he defined how the appointees will operate.

“I have pleasure in writing on behalf of the Council of the University of Zimbabwe to offer you appointment as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy Religion and Ethics.

“The appointment will be for a period of three (3) months with effect from 20 May 2025 to 20 August 2025.

“Please note that the maximum contacto.

“You will be paid based on the following structure: 60% of the total hours will be paid at a rate of US$3.30 per hour, and the remaining 40 percent at a rate of US$2.20 per hour, payable in ZIG equivalence.

“Please note that this rate is inclusive of all teaching-related duties, including preparation, assignment setting and marking, as well as the setting and marking of examination scripts.

“Note that the remuneration for your services to the University will be subject to income tax.

“If you are willing to accept this appointment on the above terms, I will be grateful if you will signify your acceptance by signing and dating the second copy of this letter and returning it to me.

“The contract is terminable by either side giving a two weeks’ notice period.

This offer remains open until 23 May 2025.”
