The City of Harare has recorded a cholera outbreak in Glen View, where a 25-year-old man has been admitted.
The city has, however, urged residents to be extremely cautious to avert an outbreak.
According to the city, a 25-year-old male is now admitted at Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital, and his signs and symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, general body malaise, and severe dehydration.
“The patient is in stable condition and responding well to treatment.
“There was no history of travel outside the city during the last two months.
“Patient stays with his uncle and family.
“Patient is a vendor at Tichagarika Shopping Centre, where he spends most of his time,” said the authority.
Food eaten before the onset.
“Sadza and beef stew from vendors at Tichagarika Shopping Centre in Glenview.
“He also drank water stored in a bucket from the same food vendor’s stall.”
According to the city, water from a shallow well at number 9246 Glen View is used without further treatment at the point of use.
“They also sometimes use borehole water from the 2nd Circle near Glenview 3 High School.
The toilet was functional at the time of visit, and there were no sewer blockages in the area.
“Health Education was given to the family, and the patient received cholera vaccine.”
