A 64-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting her 11-year-old granddaughter, accusing her of being promiscuous.
The woman, from Chief Makoni’s area, had been living with the complainant since 2019 following her parents’ divorce.
During their time together, the accused subjected the child to repeated assaults.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed;
“On one occasion, the grandmother accused the minor of being promiscuous and proceeded to burn her privates with a burning log.
“The complainant was also burnt on the right palm with a burning plastic.
The matter came to light when the victim reported the abuse and was referred for medical examination.
Examiners discovered scars on her privates, prompting further inquiry.
“Upon inquiry, the complainant revealed her ordeal.”
