Man jailed 20 years for killing, burying wife in shallow grave

A Gwanda man who killed his wife following a domestic dispute over money has been jailed for 20 years.

Fedwell Moyo (42) was slapped with a 20-year jail term after being convicted of murdering his wife, Da Msipa (27).

The couple were residents of Enyandeni Village at the time of the commission of the offence.

They had traveled to Vumbachikwe Mine on February 28, 2023, to sell maize cobs and sweet reeds. Upon their return home, an argument arose over how to use the money.

The offender preferred to use the money to pay school fees, while the deceased (his wife) intended to start a business.

The disagreement escalated into violence, with the offender striking his wife with a stone before assaulting her with a log, inflicting fatal injuries.

In an attempt to conceal the crime, Moyo buried Msipa’s body in a shallow grave within their maize fields.

He also involved his young daughter in moving the body, though she was unaware of the circumstances.

On March, 12, 2023, the offender confessed to a local resident, Livious Tshaka, who reported the matter to the police.

He was subsequently arrested, tried, and convicted of murder.
