TWO inmates, Feliciano Simango aka Fidelis Jorum Mauyangwe and Never Matoma, are being hunted after escaping from prison.
The duo escaped yesterday from Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi said the incident took place during a supervised work assignment outside the prison facility.
“The escapees took advantage of the situation and unlawfully gained access to a ZPCS vehicle, which they used in their attempt to flee.
“However, their use of the vehicle was short-lived, as it was involved in an accident approximately 2.5 km from the site, rendering it inoperable.
“The escapees then fled on foot.
“The matter is now under investigation, and security measures have been reinforced to prevent any similar occurrences in the future.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that may assist in locating the escapees to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
“ZPCS remains committed to public safety and the secure custody of all inmates.
“Further updates will be provided as necessary,” said Ass-Comm Khanyezi.-Herald
