A 37-year-old Zimbabwean gardener has been jailed for 50 years for killing a mother and her child after being promised R100 000 in Randhart, Alberton, neighbourhood south of Johannesburg.
It is said that the victims were hacked to death.
Pardon Danhire and 34-year-old Frederick Stapelberg appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where Judge Rian Strydom handed down the ruling.
On November 27, 2023, at around 18:05, Nadine Terblanche, 32, and her 9-year-old son Ruandré Vorster were discovered dead in their house.
The boy attended Laerskool Randhart in Grade 3.
He was hauled before the District Criminal Court at Palmridge Magistrate Court.
Danhire was attending to the family’s gardens.
Danhire was allegedly hired by Terblanche’s boyfriend, Frederick Stapelberg, who promised him R100,000 to carry out the killing in order to claim her assets.
Danhire was sentenced to 25 years for each murder, with the sentences running concurrently.
However, due to his cooperation, five years of the sentence will be suspended, pending his testimony against co-accused Freddie Stapelberg, who allegedly promised Danhire R100,000 to commit the heinous crime.
Stapelberg has pleaded not guilty, and his case will be dealt with separately.
Following his arrest, Danhire confessed to authorities and cited Stapelberg as the person who hired him to kill Terblanche to allegedly gain access to her assets and money in the event of her death.
