BREAKING: Magaya loses ZIFA appeal

Prophet Walter Magaya has lost his bid to have his name reinstated on the list of candidates set to compete in the upcoming ZIFA elections.

Magaya was seeking to stop watershed elections set for Saturday.

His name was excluded from the presidential aspirants’s ballot on December 23, and he was not furnished with a record as per ZIFA’s code.

It later emerged that he had been removed because he had no  5 O Level subjects on his nomination papers.

Sitting at the High Court, Justice Chitapi said, the crux of the matter was whether or not he possessed O Level qualifications or equivalent with a minimum of 5 passed subjects.

“The fact that one holds a degree which is a higher qualification does not absolve the applicant from producing an O Level.

“The minimum refers to the number of subjects. If one has passed less than 5 subjects he doesn’t qualify.

“The fact that one has a diploma one must produce O Level even if he holds a PhD.

“There was nothing unreasonable with the ZIFA decision.

“Accordingly, the challenge by the applicant cannot succeed.

“It is therefore dismissed with costs,” ruled Chitapi.
