Poetess and organiser Monica ‘Nicca Kats’ Katsiga recently hosted a lively mic show featuring stand-up comedy, poetry, and music.
The event was hosted at Jasen Mphepo Little Theatre.
The event which was held to encourage learning and creativity among artists, attracted a diverse lineup of acts which included Murayi Mukuru, Heilly, Leon, Rigiyoni among others.
Nicca Kats highlighted the importance of breaking the stereotype that open-mic shows are dull.
“There’s a stereotype that open mics are always boring and not fun.
“To achieve this, we carefully selected the best acts based on their previous work, including links, videos, and audio submissions,’’ said Katsiga.
She is the brains behind the open mic show.
“The absence of a specific theme allowed artists to explore their talents and become acquainted with performing on stage before a live audience.’’
“The best part of the event for me was when a man from the audience went on stage and motivated the performers.
“He did a great job impersonating Nelson Mandela,’’ she said.
The event received high praise from the audience.
“The show was good, good performances, the open mic is good and allows people to explore and it’s amazing seeing people coming out of their comfort zones,’’ said Takudzwa Magonzo.
