Remembering System Tazvida, he would turned 58 today

Today, we remember one of Zimbabwe’s greatest Sungura artists, Fanuel Nyasha Tazvida, better known as System Tazvida.

Born on May 2, 1968, in Zaka, Masvingo, System was renowned for his heartfelt love songs.

He died on February 4, 1999, at just 31.

This year, he would have turned 58.

He gained widespread recognition with hits such as Mushandi ndiMambo, Anodyiwa Haataure, and Dai Hanzvadzi Yairoorwa, among many others.

System began his musical journey as the lead singer for the Spides Band, before joining Muza’s Combination in 1989, alongside Tineyi Chikupo.

His breakthrough came after the release of Mabhauwa, a song penned by Cephas Karushanga, a member of the Khiama Boys, the same band where Alick Macheso was also a member.

In 1993, System formed his own band, Chazezesa Challengers (also known as Boys Dzesmoko), together with his younger brother Peter Tazvida, Leeroy Lunga, and Lucky Mumiriki.

The band blended Sungura with traditional sounds, creating an infectious mix that resonated deeply with rural audiences.

Sadly, System Tazvida passed away on February 4, 1999, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence Zimbabwean music to this day.
