Man jailed 25 years for murder over Bluetooth speaker

A dispute over a Bluetooth speaker has landed a man in jail for 25 years after he murdered a fellow imbiber.

The Shurugwi man, Tatenda Hove (24) of Gore Village under Chief Ndanga, has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

He fatally stabbed Pardon Vengai (22) following a dispute over a Bluetooth speaker.

On November, 6, 2024, around 9 pm at Danga Bar, Chachacha, the deceased, Pardon, was drinking beer with patrons Prince Vengai and Tawanda Manuwere while playing music on a Bluetooth speaker.

The offender, accompanied by Tapiwa Chitenga (who is still at large), arrived and forcibly took the speaker.

When the deceased attempted to reclaim his speaker, he was slapped multiple times by Chitenga.

The pair exited the bar with the speaker and the deceased followed asking for his speaker.

A confrontation ensued and the offender drew a Columbia knife and stabbed the now deceased in the back as he attempted to flee.

The victim collapsed after running a short distance.

He was rushed to Zvamavonde Hospital then transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital, where he passed on.
