Mines and Mining Development Minister Engineer Polite Kambamura has told other lithium mining producers to follow compliance policy following the banning of lithium exportation.
The minister was speaking during the tour of Prospects Lithium Zimbabwe’s premises in Goromonzi.
The minister urged other lithium producers to follow suit as Huay Cobalt has done.
“So, we are here again to follow up with the commitment that the company made, Prospects Lithium Zimbabwe
especially after the February ban.
“The commitment that they agreed to stick through after the ban.
“And we have seen they have managed to do some, and some are still work in progress.
“So, we will be looking at the sector with an eagle eye to see that all the commitments that they made in the name of laboratories, skills and knowledge transfer, training for our people, especially putting our people also in top humanitarian levels, so that they understand what is happening, tax compliance issues, audited financials.
“So, we are leaving no stone unturned, so that government will continue to benefit immensely from our lithium resources.”
He said there is no need for a waiver for other lithium producers who are yet to meet the conditions of the ban.
“For now, we are not talking about the waiver, and we are sticking to the fate of January.
“The producers were given a notice in June 2025, this 18-month period, to January 2027.
“So, the February ban, the December 2026 ban, was just a reminder, just a thing to say, we are still holding, so we are not going to change everything.
“So, they have to run with pace, and they have to contract, and they need to have a plan.
“Huayou Cobalt has finished, so the other big four have to finish,” he added.
