Zim woman’s death in Joburb triggers fears, safety among Zimbos in SA

A Zimbabwean woman, Tabeth Chidziva, popularly known as Soko, who was shot dead in broad daylight on Sunday, has left Zimbabweans expressing shock over their safety in South Africa.

The incident occurred in Johannesburg Central Business District (CBD) where a South African man shot her twice at close range.

This occurred after they had an altercation in full view of the public.

The incident occurred on Sunday, when the woman confronted the man, who did not hesitate to shoot her in front of many people.

Her death has left many Zimbabweans saddened, with some urging others to avoid quarrelling with South Africans or any other foreigners.

Zimbabwean businessman, Moreboys Munetsi, of Great Hope Funeral Insurance, said the incident is a wake-up call to all Zimbabweans to avoid disputes which results in tragedy incidents.

From a video that captured moments of the incident, the suspect shot the woman despite some intervention by the onlookers.

“Vakangotadza kunzwanana abva kumupfura akabva atiza.

“The family needs all your prayers and support. We need to continue praying for our family members in SA.

“We just need to pray for the family. It’s traumatising to watch a relative being killed.”

“I am doing the paperwork as GreatHope from South Africa to Zimbabwe,” said Munetsi.

He added that he is going to attend the burial, and his Great Hope will help the repatriation.

“She was selling sadza and mazondo on the streets, and she has been doing the business for years.”

A source said, the man is a criminal.

“He is known for violence, and as you watched the video, he just walked freely without even showing any fears.”
