Police have released names of seven people who were run over by a speeding truck while at an accident scene at the 57 kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge road, Mawabeni, Umzingwane.
The accident occured on April 3, at around 9pm.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that police have released 5 victims who were identified by their next of kin.
➤ Khumbulani Tshuma (32), a male adult of 988 Bekezela, Fillabusi. He was travelling in a white Toyota Hilux motor vehicle which had stopped and pulled off at the accident scene.
➤ Senzangakhona Moyo (43), a male adult of Old Lobengula, Bulawayo. He was a passenger in the Toyota Hilux motor vehicle.
➤ Victor Moyo (39), a male adult of Pumula South, Bulawayo. Не was a passenger in a white Toyota Probox vehicle which had stopped and pulled off at the accident scene.
➤ Dumoluhle Ncube (30), a male adult of Pumula South, Bulawayo. He was driving a truck which had stopped and pulled off at the accident scene.
➤ Fundani Moyo (53), a male adult of Mbonjeni Village, Esibomvu.
The other two victims are yet to be identified by their next of kin.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges members of the public to exercise caution when approaching or gathering at road traffic accident scenes.
“The public is strongly discouraged from crowding such scenes, as this significantly increases the risk of secondary accidents. “Only individuals providing essential assistance should remain at the scene, while others are advised to keep a safe distance.
Motorists are advised to reduce speed when approaching any accident scene.
“Those who may have been involved in a road traffic accident or experienced a breakdown should switch on hazard lights to enhance visibility and place reflective warning triangles at a safe distance from the scene to alert oncoming traffic,” he said.
