The Bible commands, “Thou shalt not murder.”
This edict stands as one of the greatest commandments of all time, a sacred guideline meant to preserve the sanctity of life.
Ironically, the very individuals who were instructed to uphold this principle have twisted it into a chilling norm.
In this world where the killing of one another over trivial disputes has become alarmingly frequent, society has descended into a state of fear.
Once, bars served as sanctuaries for relaxation and camaraderie, now, they echo with the shadows of violence, transforming into haunting death zones.
In a recent incident that shook the community of Chegutu, police apprehended 34-year-old Peter Jaungeti, along with Amidu Tembo (31) and Steven Katirange (36), in connection with a brutal murder that transpired at Rainbowend Farm, Gadzema, on July 26.
The suspects, along with their still-at-large accomplices, Itayi Urayayi (21), known as Chomi, and Shame Kondo, allegedly took turns mercilessly assaulting the victim, Kudakwashe Kandeya (20).
Fueled by a drunken argument during a night of revelry, they wielded a hoe, a log, and a sjambok.
The assault was so savage that the young man succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
In a separate tragedy, police in Madlambuzi arrested Thabelo Sibanda (21) in connection with another heinous act.
It is alleged that he stabbed Somandla Ngwenya (19) in a fit of rage over a disagreement regarding a girlfriend at Mafeha Business Centre in the Malalume area on July 25.
The blade found its mark in both the arm and thigh of the victim, who, tragically, also died at the scene.
