A Zvishavane based Support Unit police officer has been jailed for 21 years for repeatedly raping his daughter.
The 47-year-old was convicted of the horrific rape and indecent assault against his daughter when he ppeared before Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the officer repeatedly abused his Grade 7 daughter at their home.
It was heard that the abuse began in August 2024, when he returned home one night while drunk before he forced himself on his daughter in their own home.
He threatened her to not to report the matter.
It was proved that the abuse continued with another incident in January 2025, where he fondled her.
He further expressed his desire to have sex with her.
Fortunately, the abuse was interrupted by the arrival of the girl’s stepmother.
Despite the interruption, he again intimidated his daughter into silence.
The State heard that the young girl bravely confided in her friends and a teacher at school, who helped her report the abuse.
A medical examination confirmed what had happened, leading to the arrest and conviction of her father.
