Man kills wife, niece, village head before burying bodies in shallow graves

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with murder cases in which he reportedly killed his wife, niece and a village head whom he buried in shallow graves in Hurungwe.

The victims were found buried close to each other, some with head cuts.

The suspect, Trymore Tore (37), reportedly killed his wife, before killing his niece and the village head.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of the suspect in Hurungwe.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Trymore Tore (37) in connection with three cases of murder in which three victims were found dead on February, 17 at Mubairecheni Village, Chundu, Hurungwe.

“The first victim who is the suspect’s wife, Moline Chibayanzara (21), was found dead in a pit latrine with multiple injuries on the head.

“The body was wrapped in a blue blanket.

“The second victim, a 17-year-old female juvenile, who is the suspect’s niece was discovered about 60 metres from the suspect’s homestead with a swollen head and a cut on the forehead.

“The body was covered with tree branches and a knife was recovered beside the body.

“The third victim, Kuwesu Musawu (53), who was the village head, was discovered buried in a shallow grave behind the suspect’s house with a decapitated head and a deep cut on the neck.”

Commissioner Nyathi said, preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the suspect and his wife were having consistent domestic disputes, which may have led to the murders.

“The suspect and his wife were allegedly heard by villagers quarrelling at their homestead on February 15.

“The third suspect was last seen going to the suspect’s homestead to mediate on a dispute between the couple, while the second suspect was also last seen going to the suspect’s homestead to watch movies on 16th February 2025.”

Meanwhile, police in Masvingo arrested Joseph Dimiti (38) in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Machakata Village, Soti-Source, Gutu, on 17th February 2025.

“The suspect allegedly attacked his friend, Richard Takawira (35) with a hoe all over the body after accusing him of proposing love to his wife.

“The victim died upon admission at a hospital in Gutu.”

In a similar case which occurred in Borrowdale, Harare on February,18, police arrested Prisca Takaza (29) for a case of murder in which she stabbed her husband, Liberty Karikoga (40) with a knife on the collarbone after a domestic dispute.

He said the police are concerned with cases of murder emanating from domestic disputes.

“Members of the public are urged to respect the sanctity of life and resolve disputes amicably without resorting to violence.

“Where possible parties should seek counselling from traditional leaders, the church and elders from the community,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
