…three retrieved, one still missing

Four minor children from Apostolic Church sect drowned on Valentine’s Day after being swept away by a wave of floods.
The incident occured on February 14 in Gokwe South.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the mishap.
“The incident occurred at around 3 am when a congregation of an Apostolic Church sect of about 20 people were praying near Tare Bridge along Gokwe-Siabuwa road.
“The rains started to shower lightly and they sought shelter under the bridge which was dry by that time.
“The congregants fell asleep while rains were pouring upstream before a wave of floods came and swept them away.
“They woke up to rescue themselves but unfortunately failed to retrieve four children aged between 9 months and 4 years.”
<span;>Inspector Mahoko added:
“These are, two children from Village Kamba – Beauty Mavhiringani, a girl aged 9 months and Devine Mavhiringani, a boy aged 4 years.
“The other two are Pamela Natare (1 year 9 months) of Village Tsive and Effort SHAVA (3) of Village Mudzimiri, all villages falling Chief under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South.”
He said, the bodies of the deceased were later found at the river bank between 1 kilometre and about 20 kilometers from Tare bridge.
“A search is still going on to locate the outstanding body of a 1 year 9 months infant.
“The retrieved bodies were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital Mortuary and Investigations are still underway.”
