An Epworth man has been jailed for six years for attempting to rape a 15-year-old ‘girlfriend’.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the 33-year-old was slapped with an effective 6-year imprisonment.
The court initially sentenced him to 8 years but 2 years were suspended for 5 years.
He appeared before Epworth Magistrates’ Court for attempted rape.
On October 2, last year the offender and the complainant (15) who are “boyfriend and girlfriend” met at the complainant’s home.
The offender asked the complainant to accompany him to his house.
When they arrived, the complainant did not disembark from the vehicle because she was afraid of the dogs.
The offender asked the complainant to have sexual intercourse with him but she refused.
He kissed her and fondled her breasts and buttocks without her consent.
He also tried to forcibly remove her skirt, but she bit him and he stopped.
The offender drove the complainant back to her house.
The matter came to light when the complainant narrated her ordeal to her brother.
A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the offender.
