Model, Whitney Naomi Masike says she has shifted her focus to boudoir photography an industry which allows the exuding of sexuality and intimacy.
The 25-year-old said she wants to pave a different path and bring a new twist to the modelling industry.
Boudoir is a French word which means a woman’s private salon.
The models usually wear racy lingerie and pose seductively to show ownership over their sexuality.
“l do not want to be like any other model who strives to get a crown from a pageant because I believe there is more to modelling than catwalking.
“Boudoir modelling is what I am bringing to the table.
“Sometimes one has to wear more revealing underwear which has, however, triggered some criticism from society.
“I am comfortable with the type of pictures that l take and l find fulfilment in it.
“The fact that we reveal our bodies doesn’t make me a cheap girl or draw me closer to being a porn star.
“It’s just a job like any other.”
Lingerie modelling has its roots in the United States.
Models are used by brands to advertise underwear garments.
“I am not worried about negative people, especially towards my career as a Boudoir Model.
“Mentioning this doesn’t mean that your words hurt me but it’s just a reminder that don’t come after my life because everything I do is all about my rules, not yours or anyone’s.
“As a fashion model and video vixen, I remain humble and rooted to my values.
“I have values to maintain, so whatever l do I still need to maintain those values and be a good role model.
“There are many other young people out there looking up to me.”
Having drawn inspiration from top models such as Naomi Campbell and Alex Wek she is dreaming of becoming an internationally recognised model.
“I have worked with top models in Mzansi for the past year now.
“Besides taking my craft to a global audience, I see myself creating my own home for women who have been abused.
“I had a beautiful mentor, Stacy Black, who passed away recently but still I credit her for a steady but sure progression in the industry so far.
“I give all my thanks to my mom and friends for being supportive.”
