A Zimbabwe Republic Police officer was on New Year’s Day arrested for raping a six-year-old girl in a maize field in Glen View.
Constable Pedzisai Chikuhuhu, 40, of ZRP Epworth was reported to have lured the minor child into a maize field and raped her once.
The minor screamed for help leading to the arrest of Cst Chikuhuhu by the residents.
He was handed over to Glen View Police Station where he was detained under CR 02/01/25.
The incident took place at Darerechimurenga Housing Cooperative near Glen View 4.
“The minor was coming from celebrating New Year when she met the officer.
“On December 31, 2024, the minor child celebrated New Year’s Eve at her grandmother’s house aged 76.
“On the 1st January 2025 at around 0700 hours, she was on her way back home, where she stays with her aunt when she met the perpetrator.
“He asked her to follow him to the maize field where he promised to give her some goodies and she complied.
“When the two got to a secluded place, the officer started kissing and raped her.
“The child screamed for help resulting in the officer stopping the act.
“He then gave her some water berries (hute) fruits which he looked from his pocket.
“He put on his trousers and instructed the minor child to go home and some residents rushed to the scene.
“He ran away upon seeing people and some men apprehended him and took him to the police,” said one of the residents.
The minor child was taken to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for medical examination.
