 Correctional Queens crowned 2024 Netball queens

Correctional Queens Netball Club emerged victorious, defeating Ruwa Queens 92-24 at the Chikurubi Training School grounds on November 30, 2024, to claim the 2024 Rainbow Netball League Championship.

The victory solidified their top position despite Hyda Queens from Hwange failing to show up, resulting in a walkover in favor of the hosts.

The development also came two weeks after their sister force ZDF Queens clinched the 2024 Championship in the Netbank Premier Netball League.

Head Coach Naftali Nyanguru was over the moon with excitement as it could be heard in his voice which was overflowing with happiness.

“I’m absolutely overjoyed. Our team’s hard work has paid off, and I couldn’t be prouder,” said Nyanguru.

He applauded their preparations before the start of the season and also gave credit to the management and fans for their successful season.

“We worked tirelessly towards this moment, and it’s an incredible feeling to see our efforts rewarded.

“I am so grateful to our players, management, and supporters for their unwavering support throughout the season,” he added.

Charlotte Machona the Wardens’ Second Assistant Coach struggled to contain her joy stating that it is her dream come true to clinch a Championship as a coach.

“This is my first time winning the championship as a coach and I am speechless.

“We have had an amazing season, and I’m so proud of our team’s growth and development,” said Machona.

She highlighted that even though the path wasn’t that smooth, it wasn’t a set back for them.

“We have had our ups and downs but becoming Champions is a testament to our teamwork and dedication.

“It’s an incredible feeling, and I’m so grateful to have experienced it as a player and now as a coach.

“I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our team,” she asserted.

Judith ‘Smollie’ Mudeke, Vice Captain for Correctional Queens expressed her excitement and gratitude.

“We are really excited to have made it this far.

“A huge thanks to our management and supporters for their unwavering support throughout our journey to the championship.

“We couldn’t have done it without them. This championship is a dream come true for us, and we are eager to defend our title next season,” declared Smollie.

Tina B, a dedicated supporter of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service Teams, couldn’t hide his happiness and he was in a jovial mood as he kept on congratulating the players and the Technical team.

“I am beyond excited.

“The after-party celebrations can’t come soon enough. I can’t wait to toast to their success,” said Tina B.

The ZPCS side’s victory marked a historic moment in their journey, and they are already looking forward to defending their title next season.
