The Zimbabwe Music Rights and Association (ZIMURA) is facilitating a copyright awareness workshop for creative artists in Gweru.
The workshops are aimed at conscientising artists to earn a living from their talents.
“If you see yourself, just as a performer, not a business person, today should be a day of repentance.
“You need to change the mindset and start looking into how you can make money from the talent.
“Create content for money and the users should also pay to use your content so that you get money at the end of the end.
“It is difficult for you artists to monitor your work and it is also difficult for the use to get in touch with the artists.
“So if you become a member of ZIMURA, it will collect the money for you.
“You need to register with ZIMURA,” said the association’s deputy director Henry Makombe.
The workshop is being attended by composers, poets, music lecturers and students from Midlands State University (MSU).
