A Chitungwiza man reportedly crushed his seven-month-old baby to death while he was reversing his car at home.
Elton Muvirimi is now under investigation for a culpable homicide case after running over his child, who was crawling.
The sad incident occurred on April 30.
Harare Police Spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed this incident.
“Muvirimi was driving his Toyota Wish vehicle with registration number AEH 4478, and was involved in a fatal accident involving his biological daughter, Carline Muvirimi, who was seven months old.
“The mishap occurred on the 30th of April at around 1600 hours while the infant was busy playing under the vehicle, which was parked at their house,” he said.
Inspector Chakanza said that Muvirimi entered the car without checking underneath and set the vehicle in motion while reversing it, and reversed it and subsequently ran over his child, crushing her head.
“The infant sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.
“At around 1800 hours, a report was made at ZRP Chitungwiza Traffic.
“Muvirimi motor vehicle did not sustain any damages and was taken to VED Chitungwiza for examination,” Inspector Chakanza said.
He said the deceased was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.
“Muvirimi is being charged for Contravening Section 49(a)(b) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9:23 (Culpable Homicide) and investigations are underway.
“We however, urge motorists to check their surroundings before reversing to avoid such incidents,” Inspector Chakanza added.
