A 21-year-old rapist has been jailed for 40 years after he raped an 81-year-old woman before he slept in the victim’s bedroom.
He appeared before the Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court, which convicted Gift Ncube on two counts of rape and sentenced him to an effective 40 years’ imprisonment-20 years for each count, to run consecutively.
On February 15, this year, at approximately 3 am, the offender broke into the home of his 81-year-old neighbour in Hope Fountain.
He violently subdued her, threatening to kill her while strangling her, before forcing her to strip and raped her in her sitting room.
He then dragged her to her bedroom, where he raped her again.
After committing these acts, the offender fell asleep in the victim’s bed.
The victim managed to escape and alerted neighbours, who effected a citizen’s arrest after finding the offender naked and asleep.
A broken window confirmed his unlawful entry.
Breaking into a sanctuary of a senior citizen and subjecting them to such trauma is a violation of the highest order.
