The High Court of Zimbabwe sitting in Mutare has sentenced Sanele Simbarashe Makono (23) of Hatcliffe Extension, Harare, and Sterio Joao Mahachi (55) of Machipanda, Mozambique to life imprisonment for killing a police officer from Support Unit.
The duo was convicted of the murder of Travor Mundida.
The murder occurred on September 10, 2024, along the Mutare-Harare railway line opposite Yeovil Location in Mutare.
The offenders and an accomplice who remains at large viciously attacked and stabbed the now-deceased multiple times using unknown weapons.
They robbed him of his wallet, Samsung cellphone, and shoes before they fled.
The stolen cellphone was later sold in Mozambique.
The deceased’s body was later discovered lying face down with six stab wounds, including injuries to the back, rib cage, buttocks, and hip.
