Why police detective was shot dead by husband?

A police detective was shot dead by her husband after an altercation involving a confrontation over his intimate affair with his deceased wife’s 16-year-old daughter.

Unverified reports are that the accused might have passed away while admitted under police guard at a local hospital.

The accused, Pharaoh Dombotsvuku, 52, allegedly killed his wife, Sergeant Portia Dzamwa, 36.

The case is being treated as murder and attempted suicide after the incident occurred on August 16 in Hopley.

Police confirmed the incident in a statement.

“The ZRP confirms the death of a police officer, Sergeant Dzanwa Portia (36), who was allegedly shot once on the head with a CZ pistol by her husband, Pharaoh Dombodzvuku (52), on 16/08/26 in Hopley, Harare.
“After allegedly shooting his wife, the husband reportedly shot himself on the head using the same pistol.
“He was subsequently rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police guard and in a critical condition.
“Police have since recovered the CZ pistol allegedly used in the shooting and are conducting comprehensive investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

However, a memorandum states that the incident occurred between 9 and 10 pm on Sunday.

Pharaoh (52) reportedly killed his wife, Portia (36), a police officer stationed at Hatfield Traffic.

The case was reported by the accused’s brother.

It is alleged that the now-deceased had her own daughter from before her marriage to the accused.

The daughter is 16 years old.

According to the memo, they were residing together with her mother and stepfather (the accused). She was doing her Form 4.

At around 3 pm on August 16, at number 7285 Southlea Park, the minor girl informed her mother (the now-deceased) that she was having an intimate relationship with her stepfather (the accused).

She said that on one occasion, on an unknown date, the accused took her from school and went to a lodge in Waterfalls, where they had sexual intercourse with her consent, according to the allegation.

The now-deceased confronted the accused about the issue, and they all agreed to go to ZRP Southlea Park Police Station to file a report.

The accused drove the car, along with the now-deceased and his stepdaughter.

The accused then decided to pass the police station and first visit his brother, Trymore Dombodzvuku, to discuss the matter.

On August 16, at around 9 pm, at 417 Hopley Zone 5, Harare, the accused, the now-deceased, and the minor girl arrived at Trymore’s residence.

The accused instructed his brother to take his stepdaughter into the house, while he and his wife (the deceased) stayed outside for a short while and would follow later after they had finished discussing a “small issue.”

After a short while, the informant heard two gunshots from the vehicle outside.

The informant went outside to ascertain the situation and found the now-deceased and the accused lying unconscious in their front seats in a pool of blood.

A CZ pistol S/N 15265 with a magazine of 12 rounds was on the accused’s lap.

The informant quickly took the pistol and rushed to ZRP Southlea Park to file a report under RRB 7070119, as referenced.

ZRP Southlea Park Night Patrol, led by Duty Member 063814M A/I Masileya, attended the scene and found the deceased lying lifeless.

The accused was in critical condition and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital for further management under armed guard.
