:Vice President Kembo Mohadi is scheduled to officially launch two highly anticipated books next week, offering fresh, deeply analytical perspectives on Zimbabwe’s political history, institutional governance, and the socio-economic roadmap toward 2030.The high-profile dual launch will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare, with proceedings kicking off promptly at 12:00 PM.
Both publications are authored by prominent writer and political analyst Lungani Zwangobani, whose latest work dives straight into the complex, often polarizing conversations surrounding the nation’s ruling party, ZANU PF, its liberation legacy, and its role in modern state-building.
A Bold Defense of Governance
The first of the two books, titled “Why ZANU PF Must Succeed: 50 Golden Jubilee Reflections,” takes a sharp, unapologetic look at the country’s governing party.
Right from its introductory pages, Zwangobani establishes that the text is explicitly not neutral. Instead, it posits a central, provocative thesis: the overall stability, progress, and future of Zimbabwe as a sovereign nation are inextricably linked to the institutional success and internal renewal of ZANU PF.
Divided into meticulously organized thematic sections, the book unpacks the Foundations of Legitimacy. Zwangobani argues that political authority in Zimbabwe is anchored fundamentally in “Liberation Legitimacy”—the historic sacrifice of the protracted liberation struggle—rather than standard electoral processes alone.
It builds a conceptual framework exploring the “Party-State Symbiosis,” detailing the mutually reinforcing relationship between administrative and political authority in the country.
The reflections also chronicle critical historical milestones from Zimbabwe’s first decade of independence.
It revisits the 1980 policy of reconciliation, the complex integration of former rival liberation armies into a unified Zimbabwe National Army, and the landmark 1987 Unity Accord that merged ZANU PF and PF ZAPU to curb political fragmentation.
The second volume, titled “A Daring in November,” shifts the lens from historical reflection to current and future developmental execution.
Subtitled or anchored around the concept of Ingwenya-Ngwenyama: An Indomitable Spirit, the book explores the practical implementation of national goals, specifically the “Dream of 2030.”
Zwangobani uses grassroots examples, particularly looking at accelerated rural development in regions like Silobela, to argue that parts of the country are already moving ahead of the national developmental clock.
Through structured chapters—including the evocatively titled“The Weight of Three Fish: Harsh Reality of 2017”—the book contrasts the economic margins of the past against a futuristic “Glimpse of 2030.”
It highlights key pillars such as decentralized regional growth, digital infrastructure, and structural modernization as the driving forces behind the country’s current trajectory.
The presence of Vice President Mohadi as the guest of honor underscores the weight these texts carry within contemporary state discourse.
Organizers note that the event is expected to draw an influential crowd, including senior government officials, policy-makers, academics, historians, and members of the diplomatic corps.
“These books do not just look backward at where we have come from; they boldly map out the architectural pillars of our state institutions and where we are going as a nation,” said an organizing committee representative.
“Holding this at the National Gallery provides the perfect backdrop for a serious reflection on our national identity and destiny.”
The launch is open to the public, literature enthusiasts, and members of the media. Copies of both Why ZANU PF Must Succeed and A Daring in November will be available for purchase, with an official author signing session scheduled immediately following the formal presentations.
