Woman buries newborn baby in 10-metre-deep pit

A woman from Mvurwi has been arrested after she allegedly killed her newborn baby girl before burying her in a 10-metre-deep pit.

The police confirmed the arrest of Thandiwe Kangara (32) in connection with a case of infanticide that occurred on March 4 at Chihwe Village 2 Farm, Mvurwi.

Investigations by the police revealed that the suspect had allegedly given birth to the baby girl alone.

It is alleged that she subsequently strangled the infant with her hands before burying the body in a shallow grave about 10 metres from her homestead.

The matter came to light when a juvenile returning from school noticed that the suspect’s pregnancy was no longer visible.

The student alerted a relative, leading to further inquiries.

The case was reported to the ZRP Vivelkia Post on March 5, resulting in the suspect’s arrest.

The infant’s body was exhumed and taken to the Guruve Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
