A 37-year-old Chipinge man has been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment by a Chipinge Magistrate after attempting to murder his wife after she came late.
He was initially slapped with nine years in jail, before three were suspended for the next five years on condition of good behaviour.
He will serve 6 years effectively.
On the night of November 15 last year, at around 11 pm in the Chief Mapungwana area, the offender arrived home, and his 34-year-old wife was absent.
When she later returned and failed to satisfactorily explain her whereabouts, a dispute ensued. In a fit of rage, the offender armed himself with a machete and struck the complainant once on the left cheek and three times on the hand, causing deep and serious injuries.
