Renowned mbira player Nasibo to launch album

Renowned multidisciplinary contemporary musician and mbira player Nasibo Zaruwe is set to release her highly anticipated album, The Bird Must Fly.

The album is a collection of songs that serve as affirmations, prayers, and celebrations, all designed to open doors and pave the way for her journey.

The album release event will be a special evening at the Alliance Française de Harare, on August 2.

In a statement, she said:

“I am passionately about African roots and culture and I will take listeners on an intimate journey through my music, highlighting my growth and aspirations,” she said.

Her deep, melodious, and powerful voice, coupled with her commanding stage presence, makes her performances truly unforgettable.

Accompanying herself on the mbira, an instrument that resonates deeply with her cultural roots, Nasibo’s music will transport listeners, allowing them to experience her journey and her desire to soar and fly like an eagle.

Through her signature performances, Nasibo seamlessly blends soulful vocals with the Mbira, captivating audiences with enchanting and soul-stirring experiences.

“Musically, I creatively infuses various vocal techniques including Shona yodeling, Ndebele styles, scatting, and influences from diverse African traditions.

“This fusion results in a unique sound that soothes and uplifts the listener’s soul.”

Her illustrious career includes performances alongside African music giants such as Youssou Ndou, Habib Koite, and Oliver Mutukudzi.

Notably, Nasibo has collaborated with prominent Zimbabwean artists like Jah Prayzah, Edith WeUtonga, and Music According to Percussion, contributing as a backing vocalist.

Her talent has been showcased at prestigious events such as the European Union-African Union 6th Presidential Summit, Bozar in Brussels, Belgium, and the Maisha Music Experiment in Ethiopia.

Among her numerous performances at African festivals are the Jacaranda Music Festival in Harare,

Marahaba Music Expo in Burundi,

The Music Imbizo in South Africa,

Marafiki Music Festival in Tanzania,

Sauti za Busara in Zanzibar, and Visa For Music.

Nasibo is also affiliated with the Stiletto Affair movement and is a US Embassy alumni involved in initiatives like AWE and Bluffhill jams.

She has also participated in UNESCO Resiliarts Accelerator 2022.

Nasibo’s dedication extends beyond performing; she is a music instructor at Afrikera Arts Trust.

She is passionately passing on her knowledge to the younger generation through masterclasses and workshops nationwide.

Additionally, as the membership drive officer for the Zimbabwe Musicians Union, she advocates for musicians’ rights and the advancement of Zimbabwe’s music industry.

In addition to her prowess as an Mbira player, Nasibo is a heartfelt songwriter who addresses societal issues such as women and children’s rights, Ubuntu, and other social causes.

Her music resonates with a trance-like quality that not only elevates spirits but also heals souls, transcending genres, languages, and cultures.

Currently, Nasibo is immersed in creating her upcoming album ‘ZARUWE, ‘ set to be another masterpiece showcasing her immense talent and unique style.

With her socially conscious approach, Nasibo’s music is not just entertaining but also impactful, reinforcing her commitment to preserving traditional African music and culture while addressing pertinent social issues.
