Elta Nengomasha is now under the spotlight from sports associations, stakeholders, and some officials at the ministry.
One of the letters
Allegations leveled against her have seen some employees resigning since last year when she came into office.
It is reported that those who left, have done so with immediate effect causing some challenges in continuity.
A workers’ committee even wrote some letters raising concerns over her conduct and working relationships.
A letter that was written raised concerns
A source from the Ministry of Sports said:
“We have heard of these issues and I am sure the relevant offices will deal with the matter.
“We are told that she is harassing employees and some have resigned over her conduct,” said the source. She has also given everyone a bad name in the ongoing African games where she is the chef de mission as she did not share important information with games management resulting in poor administration and disadvantaging athletes.”
While another source from the national sporting associations said, the director general is toxic.
“She is difficult to work with as she is responsible for the death of sport.
“Hazvitoshamise kuti ndiye anoita mamwe madecisions anozobackfire to the national teams.”
“I am sure many people are not happy with her conduct, she is not professional. She also causes division among national associations, treating other national associations better than others. She also threatens and intimidates us saying she has powers and we can go and report her wherever we want because she doesn’t care.”
“Anozvipa power and I also heard people are resigning every week. She is very raw for a person holding a public office.”
Workers are resigning with immediate effect.
“I also blame the SRC board which is giving her more power.
“The SRC board is folding hands while all this mess is happening. I am sure they are aware of the letters which were written against her conduct.
“So far between Jan and Feb 2024, five people have resigned due to abuse. Her driver cited abuse citing harassment. They are resigning with immediate effect which jeopardises the smooth flow of business.
“Last year some people resigned as well.”
Another worker who resigned said:
“Workers committee wrote a letter to the SRC management board over her conduct and abuse but nothing was done.
“Her husband is also reportedly to have disappeared from home over her character.”
Below is one of the letters written to HR during the time that she was still a director at SRC;
SPORTS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
TO THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE, HR, AND ADMIN
FROM WORKERS COMMITTEE
SUBJECT EMPLOYEES’ CONCERN OVER THE SOCIAL BEHAVIOR OF THE DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND MARKETING.
We have noted with concern the treatment, language, and gestures portrayed by the Director towards employees at the workplace which has left most of us employees not at ease when assigned tasks to work with her.
Most employees in her department have since resigned citing frustration with the way she has been operating within the department, namely Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, Tonderai Vinyu, and Rosalia Jonga.
Most employees who have worked with her even from other departments have informed us that she even contacts employees at odd hours with work issues yet the normal business hours are known to all and sundry.
The conduct towards subordinates within the department who have since resigned is the same conduct she has exhibited towards the newly employed staff in the department which leaves us with great concern as they are already contemplating resigning resulting in a high staff turnover within the organizations.
We are kindly requesting for your intervention in this matter as our employer to kindly engage and share our concern with the Director concerned before issues go off hand we believe in a family type of work environment.
Thank you
