AfDB commits to support efficient public procurement systems in Southern Africa

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting stronger, more transparent, and efficient public procurement systems across Southern Africa.

In her remarks, AfDB Country Manager Eyerusalem Fasika commended the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) and regional procurement regulators for establishing the Inaugural Southern Africa Public Procurement Forum (SAPPF) as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and institutional excellence.

She highlighted that sound public procurement is fundamental to sustainable development, enabling governments to maximise the impact of public investments.

This also strengthens accountability, attracts investment, and improves the delivery of essential services.

She further underscored the importance of regional cooperation.

“Digital transformation and knowledge sharing are important in building procurement systems that are resilient, inclusive, and aligned with international best practices.

“The African Development Bank reaffirms its commitment to partnering with governments and regional institutions to advance procurement reforms that promote economic growth, regional integration, and improved livelihoods for the people of Southern Africa.

“Strong procurement systems build strong institutions, and strong institutions build prosperous nations.”
