A 36-YEAR-OLD Rusape man who ‘rewarded’ his rape victim with US$1 after raping her has been jailed for 15 years.
The incident occurred on April 9, when the offender approached the victim while she was alone.
The man from Chief Makoni area appeared before Rusape Magistrates Court, for raping a 25-year-old woman from the neighbouring village.
He was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
On April 9, the offender approached the victim while she was alone at home and pretended to be lost, asking for directions to the next village.
After the victim provided directions, the offender waylaid her and forcibly dragged her to a stream approximately one kilometre away, where he raped her.
Following the assault, the offender handed the victim a USD1 note, characterising it as a ‘reward’.
The matter came to light when the victim told an informant, leading to a police report and the subsequent arrest of the offender.
