A 31-year-old man drowned while attempting to save a 5-year-old boy in a two-meter-deep pit on Christmas Day.
Police reported that both individuals lost their lives in the heartbreaking incident at Mzila Compound, Redcliffe, Kwekwe.
The child was playing near the pit with an empty two-liter plastic container when he fell into the water and drowned.
The man, who had been drinking beer nearby, jumped in to rescue the boy but also succumbed to the water.
The bodies of both victims were later recovered by patrons from a nearby bar and were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
