A Highfield man has been convicted of selling ganja cookies to a student.
The man, Fortune Tendai Kasina, a 26-year-old man, was sentenced to an effective two-year jail term after his conviction on charges of unlawfully dealing in dangerous drugs by the Mbare Magistrates’ Court.
The offender pleaded guilty and was initially sentenced to 3 years in jail, of which one year was suspended, leaving him to serve an effective 2 years.
His co-accused in the case, 20-year-old Leenkan Zvikomborero Muzanechita, however, denied the charges and is currently in remand prison.
On August 21, a police officer stationed at Machipisa received information that some school children were intoxicated after consuming ganja cookies at First Choice College, Highfields.
He teamed up with two police officers and attended the scene, interviewing the children who implicated Muzanechita as the source of the cookies.
The accused, in turn, said the offender, Kasina, is the manufacturer of the ganja cookies.
Twenty prepared ganja cookies, a single sachet of soda, baking powder, and a plastic with an unknown powder were recovered.
