Contemporary musician Kudakwashe ‘Chillmaster’ Gift Hombarume has been banned from driving for nine months.
A Mbare magistrate issued the ruling after a directive by Judge President Mary Zimba-Dube to review his initial sentence.
Chillmaster was convicted in May of culpable homicide and driving without a license.
The accident claimed the life of a pedestrian in Hopely Farm.
And he was initially fined US$200 for driving without a licence and sentenced to perform 420 hours of community service for the culpable homicide charge.
In addition to legal penalties, Chillmaster is providing financial support, including funeral costs and assistance with schooling, for the family of the pedestrian he killed.
However, the sentence was received with mixed reactions, with some saying there was too much leniency while others supported the sentence.
In her ruling, Judge Zimba-Dube said the sentence didn’t include that a life was lost, and the fact that the relatives pleaded for an out-of-custody sentence was not supposed to warrant the outcome of the sentence.
