THE suspended Sports and Recreation Commission director-general Eltah Nengomasha reportedly squandered US$25 000, ZimdailyJournal can exclusively report.
Nengomasha is set to face a disciplinary hearing at the sports regulatory body.
Close sources said the squandered money prompted her suspension amid other abuse of office cases.
In a statement, SRC board chairman Gerald Mlotshwa however, confirmed the suspension.
“Please take note that pending the finalisation of a Hearing, the Director-General of the SRC has been suspended.
“Mr Sebastian Garikai will assume the role of Director-General in an Acting capacity until further notice,’’ read the statement.
However, close sources confirmed that the most powerful director, misused some funds amounting to US$25K.
“Akadzingirwa kuba mari US$25000 (She stole US$25K).
“She would threaten workers insulting surbodinates for supporting Zanu PF.
“She even threatened people saying that she would cleanse everything associated with Zanu PF since she was coming from the private sector.
“People were tired of her. She had so much power that many people resigned from their positions.”
Another source said the workers are thankful to the minister of sports.
“We just want to thank the SRC Board and Minister of Sport for finally heeding the call for help from the SRC employees who had suffered enough.
“The SRC employees are currently in a celebratory mood and are still in shock that she is suspended as she would always say that she was untouchable and people could report her wherever they wanted,” said the source.
