INMATE ESCAPE UPDATE: What if it was stage-managed?

From the Point of View with Connie

An inmate who attempted to escape custody at the Harare Magistrates Court earlier today has been apprehended.

Itai Madhongo was discovered hiding within the court premises shortly after the initial security breach.

The attempted escape occurred when Madhongo allegedly assaulted a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officer guarding him.

Reports indicate that he stabbed the officer before stripping him of his uniform.

Madhongo then donned the stolen uniform in an effort to disguise himself before trying to escape.

Despite initial concerns that the fugitive had fled into the city, authorities located him hiding within the court grounds.

Madhongo is currently serving a lengthy sentence at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, having been convicted of armed robbery and rape.

However, our correspondent from the Point of View desk offers a thought-provoking analysis:

What if the attempted escape at the Harare Magistrates’ Court was not a desperate, impulsive act but rather a carefully staged arrangement between the inmate and a compromised prison officer?

Such incidents raise uncomfortable questions about the integrity of custodial systems and the ease with which uniforms, access, and movement can be manipulated from within.

In this interpretation, the stabbing may have been exaggerated or pre-planned to create chaos, allowing the inmate to acquire the officer’s uniform and blend into restricted corridors without immediate suspicion.

The fact that he was found calmly walking within the offices, rather than fleeing the complex, suggests a familiarity with the environment and a possible assurance of temporary cover.

His swift re-arrest could indicate a deal that collapsed, a betrayal, or a controlled outcome once the initial plan failed.

Whether by coincidence or collusion, this incident exposes vulnerabilities that demand a deeper investigation beyond the surface narrative.
