NYABIRA GIRL MAULED TO DEATH BY DOGS: DOG OWNER APPEARS IN COURT

The owner of the dogs that mauled a schoolgirl in Nyabira has appeared in court.

Gift Jambaya (50) of St Mannocks farm, Nyabira appeared before the Chinhoyi Regional Court, being charged with culpable homicide.

The dogs allegedly attacked and killed a 13-year-old girl on her way home from school.

Allegations are that on September 30, the accused person left his place of residence and left his six cross-breed dogs unsecured.

As the now-deceased Caroline Chari and other pupils were walking home from school, the dogs chased and attacked them.

While the other children managed to flee, the now-deceased was attacked and bitten by the dogs.

A search party later recovered the deceased’s remains with multiple deep cuts and dog bites.

The accused person has been remanded in custody whilst awaiting a continuation of his bail hearing. The state is opposing bail.

The NPAZ urges members of the public that letting dogs run loose is not merely a nuisance, but it is a failure of the owner’s legal duty of care ,which is a criminal offense.
