A 45-year-old principal at a Harare college has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for raping a student aged 16.
The offender was found guilty before a Harare magistrate, with 3 years suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining nine years will be effective.
He raped a Form 3 student at the college.
On June 13, the offender and the victim went to a sports event, and upon their return, the offender parked his vehicle in front of the school reception.
He moved from the driver’s seat to the back seat, where he attempted to undress the victim.
When she refused and pinched him on the neck, he overpowered her and raped her.
The victim screamed for help, and a security guard approached the car and spoke to the offender, who had quickly dressed.
She could not hear their conversation since the offender was walking away from the car with the security guard.
The offender came back and drove the victim to her place of residence.
The matter came to light when the offender called the victim on her mobile phone, and the victim mistakenly added her brother on a conference call.
Upon counselling, the victim revealed her ordeal to her pastor.
