Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba has called on stakeholders across all sectors to come on board and support the police with resources and capacity building as the fight against crime intensifies following a record of 1,282 armed robbery cases in 2025, giving an average of 180 cases per month.
The police chief made the appeal during a business against crime indaba held today in Harare, where he met representatives from the banking, security, farming, telecommunications, retail, and energy sectors, among others.

The Commissioner-General hosted a ZRP National Crime-Business Indaba at ZRP Golf Club this morning.

He met with police and Business Executives to explore several strategies of fighting crime in the country, areas to collaborate and capacitation of the Police in providing quality service to Zimbabweans.

The executives took the opportunity to raise pertinent policing concerns which the Commissioner-General of Police has promised to address.
Key resolutions to be followed up were raised by the executives and Police Commanders.
“During the year 2025, we recorded a total of 1 282-armed robbery cases, giving an average of 180 cases per month.
“Despite managing a 4 percent decrease when compared to 2024, this figure paints a chilling picture.
“In the same manner, fraud cases increased by 2 percent for the same period.
“And who are the targets? Unfortunately, everyone is the target.
“From the ordinary citizen in their home, to the mining executive, the banker, the manufacturer, the retailer and the farmer.
“No sector is spared.
“The values involved are staggering which makes these numbers a raging fire,” he said.
Comm Gen Mutamba urged for key collaborations.
“We have gathered here today not merely to add another voice to the chorus of concern, nor to establish just another forum for dialogue.
“We recognise that the time for conversation alone has passed.
“We are here to initiate a profound alliance; a covenant between a community determined to reclaim its peace and a Police service ready to evolve.
“Our mission is singular and urgent: to douse the raging fire of violence that threatens our homes and our future. But we cannot fight a modern inferno with the tools of the past.
“Today, we appeal to you not just for support, but for partnership in a technological leap forward.
“We seek to equip our police officers with the means to see the unseen and act with unmistakable speed.”
